Advertising and Public Memory Social, Cultural and Historical Perspectives on Ghost Signs

In September 2016,  ‘the first scholarly collection to collection to examine the social and cultural aspects of the worldwide interest in the faded remains of advertising signage’ (aka ‘ghost signs’, will be published by Routledge.

Edited by Stefan Schutt, Sam Roberts and Leanne White, the volume includes a chapter written by Colin Hyde of the East Midlands Oral History Archive and myself about ghost signs in Leicester, and efforts to put images of them online in a digital collection hosted by the University of Leicester. Long-time readers of this blog will know that I harbour a passion for ghost signs and my photos have previously appeared in print and, remarkably, on the BBC!

Like most academic publications, the book will be hideously expensive, yes. But, should you be feeling flush, you can pre-order it from the Routledge and Amazon websites.
